What Should I Spend Time Doing - Tip of the Month
by Tiffany Dahlberg   Maximizing Your Time Workshop on March 31st
When you become overwhelmed with too many projects, priorities, and opportunities, it is helpful to develop criteria to decide what to work on and what to toss aside. That criteria may include: managerial request (let’s be realistic, if the boss says to do, then it moves up the list), safety issue, compliance issue, revenue potential, long-term or short-term impacts to the business or your life, etc..

Once you have determined what criteria will help you decide what to do, then you may want to develop a weighted rating system to prioritize each item into a quantifiable rating. Compiling the criteria and the weighted rating system into a matrix will help you track the obligations and opportunities that come flowing to you. Working on the items with the highest ratings will not only help you prioritize, but will also help you stay focused on what is important and why.

Improve Sanity with Managing Multiple Priorities' Tools
by Participant at Xcel Energy   A Testimonial Xcel Energy
"Thanks for your workshop here at Xcel today. I am a bit exhausted, and I do want to thank you for the priorities parameter setting ideas. I am in a complicated situation with a mom in a nursing home and a crazy 17 year old... and I'm a grad student as well, not to mention having just started a new position in a different part of Xcel on the 1st of November. Needless to say, I'm the classic "sandwiched" woman... your workshop was helpful, and I wanted you to know that I appreciate it. I am immediately applying some of these matrix priorities to my situations, and can feel some of the tension leaving already. No magic cures, but it is a help. Thank you."

Would you like to improve:

  1. Time Management Skills?
  2. Ability to Prioritize?
  3. Quality of Life?
